Ask the building early
A week (or more) before moving day, get in writing:
- Elevator reservation window — many buildings allow only one move at a time
- Whether they require a certificate of insurance (COI) from the mover, and whose name goes on it
- Loading dock hours and truck height limits
- Where pads must go in hallways
- Whether weekend moves are even allowed
Send those notes with your quote request. We issue COIs routinely; we cannot invent an elevator slot the super already gave to someone else.
The long carry
If the truck cannot reach the door, everything walks. That is normal in downtown and older walk-ups. Tell us the distance, the stair count, and whether there is a service elevator. It changes crew size and time, which is better on the estimate than as a surprise.
Winter in the city

Pack for a small footprint
Hallways are narrow. Use proper boxes, not garbage bags. Disassemble bed frames the night before. Keep the “do not load” pile in one closet so the crew is not guessing. What not to pack still applies in a studio.
