Pick a town, not just a state
Connecticut is small on a map and very local in practice. A 20-minute drive can change school systems, property taxes, commute patterns, and whether a moving truck can reasonably park on your street.
- Manchester and East Hartford — close to I-84 and I-384, practical for people who work in Hartford or along the corridor toward Boston.
- West Hartford, Glastonbury, South Windsor — residential streets, older homes, and tighter driveways that need a crew who has done them before.

- Shoreline and Litchfield County — longer carries, seasonal traffic, and historic houses with narrow stairs.
If you are still choosing a town, visit on a weekday morning and a Saturday. Parking and traffic tell you more than listing photos.
Housing and the calendar
Leases in this region often turn over at the end of the month, and summer is still peak moving season. If you can move mid-week or mid-month, you will usually get more date flexibility. Paperwork that is actually on a clock
Connecticut residents with a driver’s license, non-driver ID, or vehicle registration must notify the CT DMV within 48 hours of a change of address. - USPS mail forwarding
- Electric (Eversource or United Illuminating, depending on town)
- Town hall / voter registration
- Insurance addresses (auto and renters/homeowners)

What the house will do to the move
A lot of Connecticut housing stock is older: three-story colonials, split entries, tight turns, low ceilings in basements used as family rooms. Tell your mover about stairs, long carries from the truck, and whether the new place has a driveway the truck can actually use. That is how you avoid surprise labor on moving day.
